Tone Vocabulary Blog

Please pick 3 tone words from the Tone Vocabulary List under SF Documents on the class web page. If you do not know the meanings of these words, then you need to look them up.

Please write the 3 words as the first part of your entry. Then, without telling, please write a passage--no fewer than 10 lines--that exhibits ONE of the tone words.

Try to be grammatically correct and creative, and please write your initials at the end of the entry.

We will use your entries as part of an in-class game/activity involving tone.

Thank you!

I felt bad for the people down the street. Im talking about the little people. They are so small and helpless. They have a special van that they drive around where there bite size legs can touch the petals I suppose. School must be difficult for there children. The younger ones are probably ok becuase there peer group hasnt developed, but the child in high school must have a very difficult time. The Father is well employed and makes good money as a lawyer and the mother is a stay and home mom, but something doesnt seem right about there life

It was a gray outside when I woke up. The clouds were dark, the air was cold, and the wind was starting to pick up. The color seemed to be worn out from everything; leaves, houses, cars. I stepped outside, and the cold air sent chills up my spine. Hardly anyone was outside because they were cared it was going to rain. Walking down the street made me feel sad and lonely. The dark clouds got dark, and the air got colder. I started to pour, and I ran back home. The rain made the day even grayer. It washed the colors out of everything, like something out of a black and white comic book.

A former gang banger, laughing to himself in Mexico thought about how he got there. Out of all the bad he had done, from armed robbery to 1st degree murder, he was never charged with any of that. Instead he was put in jail under the charge of loitering. Once he was in jail the police found out his documents had been falsely made and he was immediately deported the next month. Slowly he stares at the sky now wondering where his life would take him next.

April 7 2009 was the day I ruined my sisters life. I did not listen to her when she said that he throat hurts. I did not listen to her when she said she felt hot. I thought it was all make believe. How foolish was I that I could not believe my innocent little sister. Then she came running up to me. Her face flushed from what I believed was the exertion of play time, and said "My head hurts". But I told her it was fine and to go on and play. I was studying to be a doctor at the time and the most basic symptoms were not apparent to me. As she was running in front of me she stopped. And the events which occurred after seemed to be in slow motion. My baby sister feel to the ground unmoving.

The cat walks around the house checking everything out. The front door opens and closes, here comes the cat to see who it is. The stay at home mom brought a new table piece home with flowers and the cat jumps up on the table. The blls are also paid, the computer is open getting stepped on by the cat. Damn cat. What is his deal. Your sitting on the back porch hanging out and you hear the window shades banging around, you look back and see the cat's face hanging out.

The boys came down the street and saw the losers throwing a football. They could barely make it to each other. The boys rolled up to the park, threw their bikes down while on the move and starting the bashing. Putting the losers in head locks and giving them nookies. They then took the football and began to peg them without stopping. The losers began to run, the punks tripped them and kept beating them up. It was bad. The losers went home with black eyes and scrapped up knees.

The girl did not get asked to prom and threw a fit. Trashed everything in the house and ate 400 gallons of ice cream and never went out of the house again.

There we sat at the mahogany brown dinner table that was about four feet wide and five feet long. It had cracks that looked like faults running down the table. The cracks would twist and turn in many directions as they crawled their way to the edge of the table. These cracks reminded me of the wrinkles on my grandmother's brow, how they had no real rhyme or reason to the which way they were headed; they were just there. Some of the cracks sank about an inch deep into the table and would be quite hazardous to any insect that tried to trek the mighty table. As if they were an abyss that would swallow a pinky-finger in a heartbeat, these cracks in the table were seemingly intimidating to the eye. What lay between those broken shatters of wood?

  10. The two boys walked home from school early. It was a Tuesday and they were let out at 12:00, the hottest part of the day in the town of Audrey. Audrey was a small, broad town north of Dallas, between Denton and Cicso. There were exactly 127 families spread out over the 10,452 square miles of countryside surrounding the town. When the two boys reached a house made from the native trees. The main two used were Oak, and Texas Ash. The inside of the house smelled like wood. There were 14 heads on the walls from various animals, 4 of them were shot by the boy who lived there. There was also an antique musket from the civil war, owned by Marcus Wright. His name was etched into the timbers of the rifle. He was shot at 20 years old.

Maggie gazed into the sky and saw the dark, heavy clouds rolling towards her direction. She smudged the thick mascara under her eyes and watched as another tear splat onto of her knee. Tying her hair behind her, she tried to gather herself together. The radio fuzed in and out and her cell phone had zero reception. The thunder began to strike and she pulled her car over to the side of the road. Her brother's car was there, blowing fumes out the back end. Maggie looked to her left and saw the railing on the side of the bridge had been broken through. She looked down and saw a white Volvo floating in the swampy river below her. Suddenly, she heard her brother scream for help. She busted her door open and and leaped into the water below her.

A young mother sat on the worn, faded couch in her tightly spaced living room. The loud volume of the television across the room didn’t disturb her as she sat knitting the same hat she had been focusing on for the past half-year. Her 24-month old baby usually sat by her feet playing with the already read morning newspaper, ripping it into hundreds of pieces. But today the baby decided to crawl to new places. First he made his way towards the kitchen. The marble floor felt cold on his hands, so he moved quickly to the next object he saw. He grabbed the silver table leg and tried to stand, but had no luck. He gazed around briefly before heading towards the side-door where he often saw the dog run in and out. Pushing the rubber dog door several times to experiment with how it worked, he crawled through. The field of grass in front of him didn’t look as appealing as the pile of dirt on the left. He sat an tasted the dirt in small increments before realizing he didn’t like it.

Kim is the ultimate picky eater, but she disagrees, arguing she has good taste. Kim will not put anything in her mouth unless it is good quality. Her food must be whole grain with no antibiotics or preservatives, and it must come from a renowned market or restaurant known for healthy food. Not only does Kim have weird eating habits, but she gets extremely annoyed with other people's eating mannerisms. She is unable to be around people who smack, talk with food in their mouth, or pick at their food with their fingers. She would rather sit and eat alone then have to be in the presence of bad eating habits. Overall, she is very strange and has many issues with food and eating.
